Contemplating a DIY

My Pinterest BFF Gina (seriously, if you like my taste...you'll swoon over hers) pinned these lamps last week, and my mind immediately turned to the clear glass lamps we have. They're a little boring - I picked them up from Pottery Barn outlet several years ago for around $20 a piece. They don't have proper shades so they're sitting around here with too small temporary black ones. I am thinking they might look excellent painted black like this inspiration photo, topped with some crisp larger white shades lined in gold foil. What do you think? DIY? Leave as is?
