Not Boring Neutrals - Wardrobe Inspiration
January 23, 2013
I've been scouring the web for the last couple of weeks for wardrobe inspiration since stating my intention to stick with "not boring neutral" as my closet theme this year. Lots of pinning involved.
Then I happened upon the Vince spring lookbook. Talk about wanting one of each.
But besides being a beautiful lookbook, what this really comes down to is the idea of a capsule wardrobe. The perfect black strappy heels, slim cut black pants that can go day to night, a great jacket, tailored blouses. Mix, mix, mix to your heart's content.
I decided to combine all the looks into an easy to print image to hang in my closet. These looks are perfect for weather here year round in San Francisco (except sub in ankle boots, brrr!) but could easily be transitioned warmer or cooler depending on weather in your neck of the woods.
I'm curious, do you create a wardrobe "intention" each season, or a moodboard that guides your purchases? Or do you just stick with what you've got and mix in new trends?

yes please. i'll take every piece! i <3 vince and could easily wear it (and these new looks!) every day. but i'd have to wear way more fun shoes:)
ReplyDeleteI definitely do not think that neutrals are boring, and I love mixing the same color but in different textures. I recently stumbled upon this new tumblr, and her outfits have a very "capsule" feeling to them, with lots of mixed neutral basics: http://blameitonfashion.freshnet.se/category/look/
ReplyDeleteI have the same basic wardrobe, lots of skinny jeans, button downs, pleated skirts, and I like mixing in a few new pieces to my basics, and layering on more "en vouge" items - be it a military jacket, polka dotted everything, or the heel of the season.

So agree with you. Those are the essentials in my closet too. Recently recognizing that I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair of skinny black pants, and skinny navy. I don't mind investing in an amazing pair, instead of replacing pairs that fade too soon or whatnot. And, those heels? YES!
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you find a great navy pair! I actually found my black skinny pair from Land's End, of all places. I've had them a year and no fading, still have their shape. They're the ponte knit pair. They still have a waist band and belt loops, but they're stretchy, but not too stretchy. Maybe give them a try! Not to mention, they're on super sale right now! http://www.landsend.com/pp/womens-fit-2-ponte-ankle-pants~229883_59.html
ReplyDeleteDid you get your samples yet? Mine just came in yesterday and I am in love with ALL of them! They're really killing it with the last few collections, and I can see it suiting so many different types of styles.
ReplyDeleteI love these shoes, great basic, but I would love to see these with a gold metal ankle wrap or something studded!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - new favorite Tumblr! Thank you for sharing that find!
ReplyDeleteI got my first order, I have another on the way, and will probably order a 3rd. I am totally out of control lol. I love everything, too, except the Sanibel chandeliers--those are getting exchanged. You know me, I love all the colorful spring stuff the best :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'm working on a blog makeover and want to add a stylist banner. Where did you get yours? I'm looking through the social media stuff in the stylist lounge and I can't find one. Thanks :)
Yes! Those studded Chloe boots (or the dolce vita look alikes) would make me such a happy girl.
ReplyDeleteyou can never go wrong with neutrals! thanks for the inspiration! x

The Other Side of Gray
Oh, can never get enough of white jackets grey sweaters and black everything haha! (Sadly my toes are too long for sandals like those...) Also buying neutral colours seems to be more economical/better justified because they match with other pieces easier :p
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a "capsule wardrobe" seems useful! So far I've gone with the latter and buy on the wimp, but I sit on my purchases and often end up returning...

p.s. thanks for your compliment for my blog last time - glad you liked it!
I do still have the occasional "on the whim" purchase, if it makes you feel better :) I'm just trying to share my journey about being a bit more intentional with my purchase journey!
