CLOSET CRAVINGS

January 15, 2013

ONE  |  TWO  |  THREE

Just three things I can't stop staring at this week.

Since I've limited myself to a mostly neutral color palette, I've paid extra attention to texture, pattern, and special details, especially when it comes to tops.

Throw them on with skinny jeans and heels, a pencil skirt and pumps, or layered with weathered leather and ankle boots to feel instantly pulled together.

What's on your closet wishlist lately? See the rest of what I love this week.

(Also, I got a stylus to try adding some handwritten elements. Pardon me while I learn how to use it.)

  1. #3 reminds me of penny tiling, which I adore. So cute! And your handwriting is beautiful :)

  3. i like your handwriting! did you get a wacom?

i also hate you. i am no madly in love with #1 but that is never going to happen. #2 is amazing as well. but also not likely to happen. there's a reason why i ignore my daily Net a Porter e-mails!

  4. I thought the same thing! I love penny tile!

And thank you, I think it just looks so weird to me since the stylus creates a thicker line and I usually write with a 0.5 micro pen. (Pretty particular about my pens.)

  5. Thanks! I think it just seems bigger because of the stylus weight. I actually just used an app on my iPad called Paper. Then I opened it up in Photoshop and eliminated the sort of beige background so it would be transparent.

  6. Love all three of these...and your handwriting is awesome. I just got a Wacom tablet, but I'm still trying to make my handwriting look acceptable on it.

  7. I would love to hear how you like your Wacom. I was thinking about getting one, but not sure what it would do differently than my iPad + this Paper app.

  8. I'm honestly still trying to figure it all out. I don't have an iPad, so for me, the Wacom was a more economical choice than an iPad. I'm not sure if you have this option with the iPad, but one thing I have found that is cool is that you can use brushes in Photoshop with the tablet instead of a mouse- I downloaded a few brush textures (one is sequins!) from Pugly Pixel, and have been messing around with using those with the tablet. I'm having fun with it so far, but it's definitely taking me some time to get use to, but I don't have great fine motor skills because of some nerve damage, so I'm just starting small, ha! I'll definitely keep you posted how I feel about it in a few weeks.

  9. #3 is absolutely incredible. Go figure, it's by my fav designer!

(Love the handwritten header - such a fun idea!)

(If you're interested, I'm giving away a Stella Valle necklace. Details here.)

  10. hello there! I just found your blog through Pinterest - the Closet series is outstanding! I'm definitely going to put that into practice... I'm commenting on this post though because I am dying to know how you put together the little composite of the tops and your handwriting. I am a newish blogger and would love to know where to begin with adding in some more creative elements to my posts. Any suggestions or tips would be so appreciated!

I'll definitely be back - great blog!

    Thanks!

    Mary

  11. Hi Mary! Thank you! I used Photoshop to put together this (and most of my other) posts. I highly recommend it for making your posts a bit more creative. If you don't know how to use it, there are great classes available for affordable rates through Blogshop or Lynda.com.

For the handwriting portion, I used an app called Paper with my iPad. Wrote with a stylus then dropped it in Photoshop and placed it into this board.
